Plug & Display FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions:

How many companies have taken the Plug + Display license and can my company request VESA provide a list of licensee's to assist in the decision we are making to license the icon?

Categorically, no names or count will be released prior to the advertisement showing in the magazines and trade journals. VESA's policy is to not release any member names that have taken a license for the icon. As well as not indicate the number of members that have taken the license. The list of company names and count will be displayed when the advertisement is run in the first issue. That issue is currently targeted for December 1997.

Have all the companies listed on the sample advertisement taken a license?

Actual member names are subject to change pending licensing of the P+D icon. The draft document mailed to member companies stated this on the right-hand margin. The representative example used for the advertisement proposal is for reference only and should be used to visualize how the company names will appear in the advertisement. VESA makes no claim or representation of the actual member names taking license prior to the advertisement placement.

How much for the Plug & Display Logo License Fee?

The one-time license fee is $15,000. However, companies that take the license early (before December 1997) get in the first advertising campaign starting in December 1997 and will get their company's name listed in the P+D advertisement running in 24 editions of PC Week, EDN North America Edition, EDN Asia/Taiwan Edition, EDN Asia/Korea Edition, and Information Display (the official monthly publication of the Society for Information Display).

What does the P+D licensing agreement include rights to? The key points of the Plug + Display Licensing Agreement includes a non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-transferable, worldwide, perpetual license to use the P+D icon on your products and marketing collateral. This is all clearly stated in the license agreement. The license agreement does not imply any compliance or certification of member's products using the Plug + Display icon.

Is there going to be a difference in the license fee for members and non-members?

No difference in the fee for members. However, the license and the icon will not be granted to nay companies who are not VESA members. So, if your company is not a VESA member…then you will want to also join VESA at the same time as taking the Plug + Display icon license.

Are there guidelines available for how to correctly use the P+D icon?
